GOD, LIFE & HULA HOOPS

John 16: 33

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

In 2015, I published a book called GOD, LIFE & HULA HOOPS: SPIRITUAL LISTENING LESSONS. In the book I shared 10 spiritual listening lessons that God taught me as I tried to relearn using a hula hoop!

In John 16: 33, Jesus promised that we would have troubles, but he also promised us peace. As we face this difficult time with the pandemic looming so large in all of our lives, I thought it might be good to revisit some of those spiritual lessons.

In 2012, I was diagnosed with bilateral brain tumors called schwannomas.  Eventually, I was diagnosed with a genetic condition called neurofibromatosis Type 2, better known as NF2.

The good news was the brain tumors were benign—meaning non-cancerous.

The bad news was they weren’t benign—meaning not harmful. My life was turned topsy-turvy in so many different ways, but God has been faithful. Jesus promised me peace and I have had peace through this difficult journey that still continues to this day. And you can have the same, no matter what difficult circumstances you find yourself in.

One moment everything is good and the next it’s not.

But God isn’t surprised by what happens and he prepares us for our journeys—if we let him. And that’s really the point of this book. Learning what we need to learn for this journey called life.

Next time, we’ll talk about Spiritual Listening Lessons.
