I AM

Exodus 3: 14

God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”

I AM—two very simple words that shows the complexity of God. It can be easy in the struggles of everyday life to lose sight of the majesty and holiness of God, but meditating on the name God gave Himself, and all that it represents, can help put our time on earth into perspective.

How can two tiny words possibly have so much meaning? You can find the answer to that question when you understand the meaning of “I am.” God’s name has been commonly expressed as Yahweh or Jehovah, which originates from the Hebrew root hayah.

This word means to be or to exist so it points to the eternal and self-existent nature of God.  It tells us that God’s existence is not contingent on external factors.

He stands as the supreme source of all existence. The name emphasizes that God exists independently beyond time, underscoring His position as the ultimate and unchanging creator of all things. When you think of “I am,” the one thing you should remember is that God is present always, past, present, and future.

Here are a few IAM statements that shows magnificence of God:

I AM self-existent, not dependent on anything or anyone else.

I AM Sovereign, all powerful.

I AM eternal, present in all of history.

I AM constant, unchanging and faithful.

I AM infinite, limitless.

Why is this important to us? Because God is all powerful, always with you, and he loves you so much he sent his son to save us. So when you’re feeling powerless, tired, feeling defeated, look to God and his amazing power. He loves you. He is faithful and trustworthy. He is THE GREAT I AM!
