Struggles–Part 2

Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

My last post talked about how we’re all struggling these days in one way or another. I thought I’d share a bit about my latest struggle. As you may or may not remember, I was diagnosed with bilateral brain tumors in 2012. They were benign in the sense that they weren’t cancerous; however they weren’t benign in their effect on my life. They wreaked havoc on my health.About a month or so ago, I went in for my yearly MRI. The results showed that one of the tumors is growing again and that I need treatment. Because of my Neurofibromatosis–Type 2, I always knew that it was a possibility that could happen or even that I could develop new tumors so I wasn’t exactly suprised.

I’ll admit, I’ve struggled this past month in all sorts of ways: staying organized; writing; making good food choices to name just a few. I’m not going to use the word depression. Instead, I’ll simply say I had a natural reaction to bad news. This hasn’t been the first time it’s happened and it probably won’t be the last, but I’ve learned what to do when I start to struggle–refocus on God!

God is faithful.

Joshua 1: 9 is a great reminder of how we should react during times of struggle.

Be strong.

Be courageous.

Do not be terrified.

Do not be discouraged.

Because the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

I’m not saying it’s easy, but it is possible when you keep your focus on God rather than your circumstances.
