1 Thessalonians 5: 17
I don’t know about you, but if we use the verse from above as our standard, then there’s lots of room for improvement for me and maybe for you as well.
This past weekend, we did our annual Memorial Day weekend camping trip at Round Lake. It’s normally a summer camp for children but twice a year, they have Family Camp where everyone from their supporting churches are welcome to camp. They fill the weekend with tons of activities for kids and adults alike. There’s always great entertainment and preaching.
In spite of the chilly weather, it was a great weekend.
What’s any of this have to do with prayer?
I’m getting there–two of the entertainers/preachers were John Thomas Oaks and Tommy Oaks. Tommy Oaks challenged each of us to improve our prayer life. Not by sitting for an hour or two in prayer–but if you do that–GOOD FOR YOU–keep doing it. But most of us can’t or won’t prayer for that amount of time every day, but he gave us a task that we can all do.
Can you pray for one minute at a time five times each day? Of course you can. His suggestion one minute when you wake up, one for each of the three meals, and one at bed time. Imagine how much more intimate of a relationship you and I could have with God if we did that every day. Wouldn’t that be wonderful?
