The Sequel: You really can live forever!

A devotional by Alexis A. Goring

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”—1 Corinthians 2:9 (NKJV)

We have a fixation with The Fountain of Youth. We constantly search for that next product, food, drink or pill that will help us maintain a young appearance because deep in our hearts we want to live forever.

They say that we seek fame for the same reason. When you’re famous, your work, image, creative passions, and career live on long after you’re dead. But could it be that our desire to live forever is not based on human goals and imagination? People were never meant to die, but instead live forever! But when Adam and Eve sinned by eating the forbidden fruit from the Knowledge of Good and Evil Tree in the Garden of Eden, they started the downward spiral. We’ve been desperately trying to climb our way up and out ever since. However, God didn’t leave us without hope

God knew that Adam and Eve would disobey His commands and sin. Being the wise and loving Father He is, He already had a plan to save his children and reconcile them. He sent His Son Jesus Christ to Earth to be born as a baby to a virgin named Mary and to grow up with his earthly parents, work as a carpenter, then be baptized, be tempted in the wilderness, then launch into his God-ordained ministry. His purpose included teaching about God’s love for humankind, preaching about the way God wants us to live, healing people, and giving them hope.

The world cannot take away the hope of Heaven that Jesus gives. He assures us that in the end, all who follow Him will be reunited with His Father (God) in a place completely and forever free of sin. No more sickness, sorrow, death, or pain. Only a happily ever after that the most skilled writer could not even create!

One of my writer friends told me that when she was growing up, she “didn’t want books and movies to end,” so she would write sequels. How amazing is it that the Creator of the Universe is already writing a sequel to your life on Earth? The Bible says that God is preparing for us something that’s beyond our wildest imagination (1 Corinthians 2:9). He’s writing the second act of human history, and it’s open to all who believe in and follow.

So do you really want to live forever? Accept Jesus into your heart, then let Him lead you all the way to Heaven into the most beautiful sequel that none of us could imagine! He wants you to live forever and be reunited with God! Will you say yes to Him?

  1. This invitation to Christ is so heartfelt and compelling. In its simplicity about Christ’s sacrifice for us and the plan for a sequel is the best real life story to be told. Alexis is my cousin and a phenomenal writer. I love to read her work. Thank you for sharing. And yes I want to live Forever with my Savior.
