Revelation 6: 9-11
When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained.
Last time we learned about the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. So now we’re up to the 5th seal. We’re going to summarize each judgment, but I urge you to take the time to read the passages carefully and with a study Bible. It helps—really!
I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained.
There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, 13 and the stars in the sky fell to earth
There is a pause between the opening of the sixth and seventh seals. When Jesus opens 7th seal, there was silence for about ½ hour. The seventh seal is actually 7 angels with the 7 trumpet judgments.
1st trumpet— 1/3 of vegetation burned up.
2nd trumpet—1/3 of sea, 1/3 of sea animals, and 1/3 of ships destroyed.
3rd trumpet—1/3 of waters and springs destroyed.
4th trumpet—1/3 of the sun, the moon, and the stars were destroyed as well as 1/3 of the day and night.
5th trumpet—The bottomless pit is opened it and locusts came out of the smoke. These are not ordinary locusts as you can read from their description. The locusts are ordered not to harm the grass but only men with no seal of God on their foreheads. Their power was to hurt men for 5 months. (1st woe)
6th trumpet-4 angels from the Euphrates are released to kill a 1/3 of mankind.
Can you imagine living through this? I can’t. Things are definitely going from bad to worse. For those who believe that we’ve already seen the events in Revelation, I would wonder how they explain these judgments—which we have not seen up to this point in history.
