Distractions and Reactions: A Lesson Learned on Seeking God First! PART 2

Distractions and Reactions: A Lesson Learned on Seeking God First!  PART 2

A devotional by Alexis A. Goring

My experience shows that when I start my day with God I am stronger and more likely to overcome everything that threatens to destroy me or interrupt my peace during that day. And after the year 2020, I think we all know that it is not just a pandemic that can destroy you, but so can a life without hope. Living life without God can be a very lonely and troubling experience. I know that I cannot do life without God. I need Him every second, minute, moment, hour, morning, noon and night.

Have you ever seen a bumper sticker that says, “No Jesus. No peace; Know Jesus, Know Peace!”

I saw that sticker on a car’s bumper when I was a child and over the years—especially my years as an adult, I have found that statement to be so true. Dear friends, you don’t have to live this life alone. There is a living, loving God who wants to walk with you not just here on Earth, but for eternity in Heaven! Please don’t miss one more moment trying to function on your own or seeking other people, substances or influences to get you through tough times. Only God can help you overcome the battles you will face each day.

Just like a skilled football coach of a famous winning team, God has the game plan that will lead you into victory over the opposition every single time! Stay on the winning side and let God guide you through this life. He is the only One who can do this for you because ALL that exists was created by Him and for Him—not just this Earth but all the galaxies and the entire universe! And yet He still wants to make time for you. Don’t rush through life and forget all about the Giver of Life!

God wants a relationship with you.

He loves you! It saddens His Heart when you try to exist without Him. Don’t break Your Creator’s heart. Get to know Him. He loves you with all of His heart. He will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). He thinks you are worth dying for (John 3:16) and He offers you the free gift of salvation because He wants to spend eternity with you!

All you have to do is believe that He is real, accept His gift of salvation offered through His Son Jesus Christ, then trust Him to lead you through this life. The Bible says in Romans 10:9 (NKJV) that, “if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

I hope this devotional has encouraged you to seek God first each and every day.

This message is not just for you; it is for me. I am writing this on a day when I did not seek God first and my mind and emotions ran haywire because the distractions and woes of this world got the best of me! I know that this happened only because I did not start my day with Him, asking God to guard my mind and heart and to help me focus on what He says about me. I neglected to ask Him to help me avoid believing anything or anyone says that is contrary to His Word.

Thanks, Alexis for these two wonderful devotions. We’ll see you next month!
