Today’s sermon in a song is SILENT NIGHT. (click on the link) This version shows Silent Night being signed as well as sung.
As I pondered what messages could be found in Silent Night, the word reverence came to mind. Whenever I listen to this song, whether it is at church, on the radio, or a Christmas program, I become shrouded in reverence for my God.
Dictionary.com defines reverence as an attitude of deep respect tinged with awe. That sounds about right to me.
I’m all for love, joy, and the excitement of praise music, but I love the reverence and awe that the old hymns provoke in me as well. So as we go through this Christmas season, take a few quiet moments to reflect on the awesomeness of God.
