Luke 2: 10-12

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.

A baby changes everything, there is no arguing that point. Ask any parent, new or experienced, young or old, tired or rested. A baby changes everything for the family they were born in.

And that’s true for the baby we celebrate during this Christmas season. Jesus was born and He changed everything for His family. Mary and Joseph? No, I’m not talking about Mary and Joseph. I’m talking about God’s family.

To become part of God’s family, you must accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and when you do you become part of the Family of God. Don’t believe me, read the next verse.

Ephesians 1:5

In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ in accordance with his pleasure and will to the praise of his glorious grace which he has freely given us in the One he loves

We become His Child. How awesome is that!! Along with adoption comes an inheritance–and what an inheritance that is!!

Matthew 7:11

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

For most of us, our earthly parents loved us and took care of us to the best of their ability.  They want us to have a successful life. They want to give us all that they have, emotionally and materially. They want to give us whatever advantages in life that they can.

Our earthly parents’ love is shallow and minute compared to the infinite love of God.  Can you imagine how much God is on our side?  Can you imagine how much he loves us and wants good things for us?  Can you imagine what good and wonderful plans our Heavenly Father has for us?

Unfortunately, not all of us had the perfect parents, the perfect family or the perfect life. Not all of us made the right decisions and those wrong decisions have taken us to places we couldn’t imagine. Even now as you read these words, you might be in the depths of despair while everyone around you SEEMS happy as they rush around with smiles on their faces.

And now you think it’s too late.

But it’s not too late! God loves you and He wants you to be part of his family. He wants to adopt you and give you the inheritance He created just for you. His inheritance is about love and joy and peace and tons of other wonderful things–too many to list here.

Not sure what to do? Here’s a few verses to get you started, but the Bible is filled with more wisdom than I can put in this little devotion.  I suggest you find a Bible and then search all the verses about God’s Love.

Romans 10: 9

That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

1st John 4: 9-10

9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

And remember a child changes everything.

Happy Birthday, Jesus!!

Merry Christmas to all!!
