I Can’t Do That….

Joshua 1:9

Be bold, be strong for the Lord is with you.

 \

“I can’t do that.”

“It’s too hard.”

“I’m afraid.”

How many times have you heard these words or even said them?  Too many, I’m sure. God did not give us a spirit of timidity and He doesn’t want us to miss out on his blessings because we think we can’t do something.

God puts desires and dreams in our hearts for a reason. He wants us out there doing things that make us happy while adding to His kingdom on earth. If we aren’t willing to step out of the boat and try things, then we won’t ever “walk on the water” so to speak.

This is one of my favorite verses when I’m nervous about doing things that make me get out of the boat. What kind of things you might ask?

Well the first one that comes to mind is public speaking. Public speaking is one of the greatest fears for all Americans or so the polls say. I believe it—how about you? Do you enjoy speaking in front of a group?

I can’t say it’s my favorite thing to do, but I’m learning to do it anyway.

Whem my first book was published several years ago, that’s the first thing I realized. Being a writer means you have to get out and speak in front of people—at least occasionally.

I was terrified. So, I had to make a decision. Either do it or stop writing. And I really believe my desire to be a writer comes from God and it is one way I honor HIM sooooo.. I made the decision I would speak in front of groups when I got the opportunity.

When I’m getting ready to do a speaking engagement, this verse gets read over and over and over.

SHARING TIME: What is something you do with God’s help in spite of being afraid?

  1. Yes…. I agree. I am not a speaker either! But, God gives us the boldness to do things we can’t imagine. Phil 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” It doesn’t say “some things” it says, “all things.” Give Him the honor and glory and thanksgiving!
