PRAYER-NOT THE LAST RESORT BUT THE FIRST

Hebrews 4:16

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need

Prayer works!

There’s nothing left to do but pray. We’ve all said it. I know I have. The question is why would we say that? Prayer shouldn’t be the last resort, but the first when facing adversity or even in our daily life.

Imagine, we can talk with the creator of the universe.  Not only can we talk with God but He wants us to come before Him with our wants and needs as the above verse tells us.

There’s no secretary asking you to make an appointment.  There’s no waiting line, no busy signal, no closed sign–come back tomorrow. God is there as soon as we open the line of communication. He is there waiting for us to come to Him.

Why wouldn’t we take advantage of that?

When I was diagnosed with my brain tumors (benign), one of the first things I did was starting asking all my writer’s groups and friends to put me on their prayer list. I would have to wait almost 3 months for the treatment. That’s a lot of time to worry and fret.

Instead of worrying, I chose to pray. Not only for healing, but for a good attitude.

Prayer works.

As the date for my treatment for my brain tumor approached, I felt the panic begin. True, I was grateful that it wasn’t an invasive surgery, but still they were going to be putting screws in my head. Scary!! But I refused to let the fear and panic take over. Instead every time I felt that ugly panic threatening, I said a one line prayer.

And the day of the treatment, I was calm and in peace. It was a difficult day, but it would have been far worse without all the prayers going up on my behalf. And it’s been almost a month, and so far no adverse reactions to the treatment.

Prayer works.
