Joshua 1: 9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
Another year has come and almost gone. How was yours? Mine didn’t go the way I expected it would. I’m pretty sure you can say the same about yours. I know there are a lot of people out there hurting, discouraged, and/or afraid.
But Joshua 1: 9 reminds us to be strong and courageous because God is with us wherever we are. That’s easier said than done, right? Actually, it’s not as hard as you imagine. Let’s go back a one verse.
Joshua 1: 8
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips. In other words, read and study God’s Word.
Meditate on it day and night. Meditate simply means to think about it. After you read and study God’s Word, think about it.
So that you may be careful to do everything written in it. So don’t just read the Bible, don’t just think about it but do everything in it.
And you will be prosperous and successful.
And that’s how you stay strong and courageous. No matter where you are. God’s Word is one of God’s greatest gifts to us. And yet so many of us miss out on the blessings to be found in it, because we choose not to take advantage of the wonderful gift of God’s Word.
In 2012, I was diagnosed with bilateral brain tumors. To say it’s been a difficult journey is an understatement. Each day I struggle in one way or another because of the tumors as well as the treatments, but don’t feel sorry for me. Thanks to the power of God’s Word, each day is also filled peace and joy and hope.
By the way as I write these words of encouragement, I’m undergoing treatment once again for my brain tumors. They were stable for the past five years, but one has started growing again. So as I write about fear and discouragement, I really do understand.
But I choose to focus on God’s love, His power and His promises.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
