DEVOTION AND A BOOK GIVEAWAY!

I have an extra special treat today as a devotion today. My guest writer is Janet K. Brown who’s new devotional book  Divine Dining: 365 Devotions to Guide You to Healthier Weight and Abundant Wellness was released in December. Janet lives in Wichita Falls, Texas and loves to write, visit with grandkids, and travel with her husband in their RV. Divine Dining is her second published book. 4RV Publishing released her debut novel, Victoria and the Ghost, an inspirational YA.

Janet is willing to give away a print copy of her book. How nice is that!  This sounds like a devotional book, I’m going to be buying for myself.  Yes, I admit it–I need to lose a few pounds!  One of my goals for this year is to become healthier! And this looks like just the thing ot get me on my way. If you want to be considered to win the book, leave us a comment why. Winner will be chosen on January 28.

THE PROTECTION OF THE WREN CACTUS

“To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy—“ Jude 24 NIV

If food compulsion is part of our carnal life, danger lurks whenever we leave God’s protection.

At a friend’s country home, we noticed a cactus bush three to four feet high with a nest of wrens on one side. We commented.

“That’s our wren cactus, our sanctuary for birds,” our friend told us.

On the other side of the bush, we spotted baby mockingbirds. Instead of flying to high places to be safe from the coyotes and deer, birds make their home here in a small bush. On examination, we noticed birds fly into the cactus without touching the prickly thorns. A larger animal would be unable to do that, so the birds make their nests in perfect safety right under the noses of their enemies.

Like the birds, God is our wren cactus. He protects us from certain defeat and destruction while in the presence of food that would tempt us. His loving arms encircle us. The enemy can’t get past His defense.

Prayer: When I’m at a restaurant or party, a pot luck or home by myself, I’m vulnerable without your hedge. Please protect me today, Lord.

I lost ninety-five pounds and have maintained the loss for seventeen years. One tool in my recovery remains the daily reading of inspirational books. I found my library incomplete when I searched for one that combined a twelve-step program with God as the Higher Power. The biggest secret to my success was giving up my will and letting God do it through me. I wrote a book of daily devotions that came from my journals and memories. This is one woman’s road for success. I pray these thoughts help others reach the same healing God gave to me. It’s all about God.

SHARING TIME: IF YOU WANT TO WIN THE COPY OF THE BOOK, LEAVE A COMMENT. Winner will be picked by my heart! The one that touches me the most wins the book! THANKS! Winner chosen on Jan.28.

And don’t forget–anyone who signs up to follow this blog or www.tiarasandtennisshoes.com between now and Feb.1 will automatically be entered to win Amazon gift cards!

  1. I have struggled with being overweight my entire life. This past year God has been leading me down some rough roads, freeing me from some past issues and all the while I have continued to gain weight, instead of lose. I have tried countless diets and programs, been encouraged by friends to just “eat less and move more,” while knowing in my heart that only God will help me overcome my food addiction. I am working with one of my children regarding a stronghold in his life, and desire to show him through my victory in losing the excess weight and maintaining a healthy weight that with God’s help, we can overcome. I set my goal this year to just lose one pound a week, slow and steady, while giving God all the glory.

I would love a chance to win your devotional to help keep my focus where it needs to be. However, if someone else needs it more than I do, I’m happy for them winning instead of me. Thank you for this opportunity.

    • Thanks for sharing, Cheri. I so identify with your problem. This devotion book is the book of my heart and contains the good, bad, and ugly of the years before God’s emotional healing. I will always fight this compulsive overeating, but my journey is all about God.

  2. Once upon a time , I knew a girl who was thin, healthy and able to do alot of wonderful things… I still stive to do good and godly things. I feel to be over weight , is to be to sick to serve at times. I weight 265 lbs , I am helpmeet to Mark who is 256 and sufferes from mental illness. I am mamma to 7 , 3 still at home, who I homeschool. I want to run with them and play moreso with them, but due to an accident in 2001 that broke my left leg in three places and shattered my ankle, damaged my back and neck, I dare not. I want to loose at least 80 lbs and Mark says he wants to loose weight too. I have misscarried 3 times between my two youngest and many times before that, which I am told is due to my thyroid being off. I so want to be healthy and well. Able to serve my family and to serve my God. I would love to win and read your book. I believe it would truely help me and I have just started to read and review books this year. I use to be such an avid reader and well recovering and caring for my family I gave it up…. I also would love to write my own story someday.
    Blessings

  3. I am so glad that you wrote this book. I would very much like to win it. I am 95 pounds overweight, all gained during menopause. I think I have tried every diet under the sun. My thyroid is apparently low, according to blood tests, but not low enough. Three years ago I was labeled disabled but I have overcome vision problems, walking with a cane, atherosclerosis (I am 0% clogged now as opposed to 70%), and have my diabetes under control with diet and exercise. I know I need the Lord and His word to help me overcome my compulsions to eat, and that will be my next huge challenge. Thanks for writing your book, and I invite you to take a look at mine too. http://bookstore.inspiringvoices.com/Products/SKU-000526398/Grace-Miracles-and-Chocolate.aspx

  4. Marriott, health problems sure add an extra layer of problems to eating better. Like Lillian says, It’s always a struggle. I think back of what God has done for me, and I stand in awe. He’s the answer to everything. It’s just sometimes we think the problem is too petty to petition a holy God about, but it’s not.

  5. I can use this book so much. I’ve been trying to lose weight ever since my husband passed away. We use to do treadmill, walk, and exercise every day, now I just can’t get back into it. Food seems to take that place, especially sweets.
    Thanks for this give away..
